Feasting on computers

I have been enjoying watching feasting on waves and feasting on asphalt.  They also happen to be filled with fun little travel/food related tidbits, and i share this one.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.

- Mark Twain

and

The further one goes the less one knows.

- Lao-tzu (sixth century BC)

i need to find a food related one in this epsiode! oh well.  they are all good pithy sayings.

-update-

I feel i have to add this since my post title referenced computers.  Microsoft research is upping the ante with their Surface product -> SecondLight.  i recommend checking out the linked video from the article.

Miscellaneous and political

I heard on the news or radio or internet the other day how McCain was supposedly going to be making a last grab at getting PA votes.  However, i have never once heard anything from McCains campiagn.  But i have had neighborhood door to door visits from obamas camp at least 4 times over the past two months.  Am i out of the demographic and McCain just doesn’t care about trying for my vote? I don’t get it.  This just seems like further proof that all the McCain camp is running on is negativity.

Mel had posted this on facebook the other day, and i thougt it was interesting, the photo especially. (and accompanying description of course).

In more interesting news, i am watching Sholay right now.  I can see why it is noted as one of the top films, it is funny!

Get your Fuzzy on

Ok, I am going with a theme here.  The theme is, well, how about you just use your brain to figure it out.

First i start with one of my all time favorite GetFuzzy comics.

And then, if i can find it, i will move onto a more ‘multi-media’ version of the same joke.

Clone Wars

So, The official star wars animated series, ‘the clone wars‘ has started recently.  Not to be confused with another animated series, just called ‘clone wars’ that was aired between star wars episode II and III.  This series was not done by lucas, but I am just about to start watching it, initial reviews say it was pretty good. supposedly it does some explaining of how anakin skywalker goes from good to bad.  The new ‘the clone wars’ series is ok, but i feel like it is very dumb.  especially the dialogue of the droid robots.  I mean, yeah it is for kids, but are you trying to make the kids learn anything from watching this series?  sheesh.

But, my whole reason for writing about this, was to share a piece of trivia I came across when reading about these two series.  In reference to Star Wars – The Clone Wars (the recent animated movie, not the series), it says

First Star Wars movie since Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983) to feature an in-cockpit view of the jump to Hyperspace. George Lucas purposely did not use this iconic shot in any of the prequels so as not to lessen the impact of seeing it for the first time in Star Wars (1977) (assuming one watches the films in chronological order).

Ok, What?  Is it just me or does that seem ridiculous?  On one hand i was like, wow, so old Georgie did care about not overpowering the feel of the original movies when making the recent ones.  But on the other hand, i think this is evidence of how out of touch he is, i mean, there was plenty of other pizzazz in episode I,II and III that clearly outshines anything in the original 3, or is meant to.  Why did he think that simply not using this one ‘iconic’ shot would make a difference?  whatever.
