Happy New Year (its 2009 already?)

I just wanted to say, Happy New Year!

Bring in the new year with renewed vigour, renewed purpose, and renewed dedication.  Unfortunately i have been forgetting to take my camera anywhere for the past few weeks, so no new years eve day pics :(

Also, I really want to see Slumdog Millionaire sometime…

Bon Anniversaire!

I got a cool song from Haiti today, and i thought I would share it.  Thanks Laura and Jude!  Also, it snowed on my birthday, awesome! – only a dusting, but it stayed on the ground and covered my car :)

My Birthday Song (the english translation is not perfect)

Today is your birthday, my friend David
It’s a great day to tell you “Happy Birthday!”
To bring you a gift is not enough
but perhaps a melody will bring you joy

A “Happy Birthday” I’m wishing you now
one that will bring you joy, even in your sleep
And it’s with this melody I’m taking the chance to tell you

I have a surprise that I keep hidden in my heart
A word that will bring you joy
Because I know that you know Christ
May the light from God’s face shine on you

A “Happy Birthday” I’m wishing you now
one that will bring you joy, even in your sleep
And it’s with this melody I’m taking the chance to tell you

early christmas with 64bit flash plugin

Today felt a little bit like an early christmas becuase adobe announced a beta release of a 64bit flash plugin.  Now this really might seem like “wha?”, but it is sweet, because they have been delaying and delaying the release for the 64bit platform for ages, and now that they are releasing it, they are running the beta on linux, and will then release for osx and windows later!  becuase linux users are so vocal i think, and will help submit bug reports.

I just tested it out on my Fedora 10 preview install i have, and it is awesome. youtube, hulu, etc, all work, even this blog.  small issue with fullscreening one of the youtube vids, but that might be youtubes fault.  does this mean i like flash content on websites now?  not completely, it still makes most of the web inaccesable to people using devices to browse that do not have flash support, but oh well.  at least now i do not have to run 32bit flash wrapped in ndiswrapper, it was a cpu hog.

combine this with news that nvidia is soon (early 2009) going to release a new linux driver with purevideo support (something i only currently get when i boot into vista) and i am feeling quite a warm glow.  seriously.

Oh, and i finally checked out Hulu, it is a pretty cool service provided by nbc corp.  it can even stream 480p video!  now if only i could view widescreen content correctly, oh well. at least it works on linux, that is a far sight better than the nbc.com video service.

Now i need to get back to work, i have to run to the philly area again tomorrow for a client project, and have some stuff i need to ‘verify’ before i show up there :)

Oh, and one last thing, i promise.  a new trailer is up for the new star trek film directed by jj abrams (aka Lost and Alias), and staring sylar from Heroes as the stock vulcan character.

Time Warp

There is a new show on the Discovery Channel this year called Time Warp.  It started pretty fun but is getting worse in my opinion, whether that is because i have seen enough slow-mo camera action by now, or because the ‘Discovery Channel’ effect (where the same clips get shown over and over while the guy does the annoying voice over) has taken over, i am not sure.  anywho, here is a cool collection of clips, be sure to browse related videos on youtube, there are some cool ones. (search Time Warp)

Also, wasn’t/isn’t today a wonderful fall day?  it is making me feel very cooped up and anxious for something to do.  alas there is nothing to do.
