Today felt a little bit like an early christmas becuase adobe announced a beta release of a 64bit flash plugin. Now this really might seem like “wha?”, but it is sweet, because they have been delaying and delaying the release for the 64bit platform for ages, and now that they are releasing it, they are running the beta on linux, and will then release for osx and windows later! becuase linux users are so vocal i think, and will help submit bug reports.
I just tested it out on my Fedora 10 preview install i have, and it is awesome. youtube, hulu, etc, all work, even this blog. small issue with fullscreening one of the youtube vids, but that might be youtubes fault. does this mean i like flash content on websites now? not completely, it still makes most of the web inaccesable to people using devices to browse that do not have flash support, but oh well. at least now i do not have to run 32bit flash wrapped in ndiswrapper, it was a cpu hog.
combine this with news that nvidia is soon (early 2009) going to release a new linux driver with purevideo support (something i only currently get when i boot into vista) and i am feeling quite a warm glow. seriously.
Oh, and i finally checked out Hulu, it is a pretty cool service provided by nbc corp. it can even stream 480p video! now if only i could view widescreen content correctly, oh well. at least it works on linux, that is a far sight better than the nbc.com video service.
Now i need to get back to work, i have to run to the philly area again tomorrow for a client project, and have some stuff i need to ‘verify’ before i show up there
Oh, and one last thing, i promise. a new trailer is up for the new star trek film directed by jj abrams (aka Lost and Alias), and staring sylar from Heroes as the stock vulcan character.
